X-Net

Not sure if anyone has read Cory Doctorow's Little Brother.
It is a light quick free read or buy the audio book. The story revolves around a bunch of kids living under a repressive government regime. It is a sort of alternate present day. Much of it is so very BoingBoing Cory but if you don't mind that it is still a fun read with plenty of ideas to play around with. One of which is the X-Net. I can't be stuffed going into a lot of detail here, read the book if you are intersted.

The X-Net
The fictional X-net is a network owned by the community not corporations or government. The X-net could be real. I think it already is but it is a bit different. There are already loose collections of informal networks scattered across Australia. People are just not pissed off enough with whats on offer to get serious about it. The KRudd Government just announced a 43 billion dollar fibre-to-the-premise National Broadband Network. Sounds great hey? So where does that leave the cleanfeed??

Getting to the point...
Oi! Paul lets meet up and build these auth servers then Coffswifi can be a bit more robust. Once that is done we can start worrying about our underground uncensored grass roots network!!!

Nice..

That is very good comment you shared.Thank you so much that for you shared those things with us.Im wishing you to carry on with ur achivments. All the best. http://www.hayda.net/

Yes for X-Net

Agreed - lets meet up and get some auth servers happening - started building one this weekend gone. Just need to burn it in. It failed last time due to heat.

Also found a whole heap of abandoned telstra cables - will follow the through to see where they go - could be good for X-Net.

PS my spell checker has informed me that I have spelt telstra wrong and need to capitalise it. Strange that a word like telstra would be in my dictionary????

tel-stra

Australian headlines today say telstra has done a volte face, they are now happy to break up their wholesale and retail....

So maybe it will not need to be in the dictionary for much longer.... [crosses fingers]
