No More Jetty Access Point
Posted June 19th, 2009 by Paul TempletonThe Jetty access point will be turned off for now. It has been abused to many times and the people providing band width have had enough. This is a side effect of having an open network. There are always some people who think free means exploit. In the end it affects us all.
The access point at creek tower will also be turned of in the next few weeks as it hardly gets used and is costing $70 per month.
Google and the Radio Spectrum Inventory Act
Posted May 11th, 2009 by Paul TempletonGoogle is on the war path to free the radio spectrum in America. As they state 'airwaves belong to the American public, not to any corporation or other entity'.

If they make any headway then we sould do the same here in Australia. The community has lost all access to this common. That is every thing up to 420THz.

Sit back, relax and have a cuppa.
Everything is Hunky-Dory
Posted March 25th, 2009 by rubenLooking back through the posts it seems that every other one is all about a bit of gear breaking or network outages. So, just to let you all know, things ain't all bad. If you read the comments from the previous post you'll see that the last outage was caused by Country Energy being a little over zealous with the off switch. Anyhow that is all sorted now so we shall move along and enjoy the sizzling of wifi radiation around our ears.
You'd never guess I was killing time whilst waiting for a virus scan on a broken workstation would you....
Paul should be adding a post later to let you all know about a meeting over in the Coffs SLSC at 1pm this Sunday, oh hang on I just told you. Well er maybe Paul will make it sound more official.
Feel free to delete this rambling post. I need to start fixing some broken sectors....
Not just down, gone!

The Coffswifi auth server which manages all the logins for the wireless hotspots around town has mysteriously disappeared. I have tried to contact Paul but he appears to have been kidnapped by aliens... hmm - I sense a conspiracy. Until he gets returned to this planet/dimension coffswifi is, effectively dead... or is it?
I stayed up last night and rebuilt my own authentication server at http://home.tregeagle.com/wd/
It should be working but I am missing something because the wifidog gateway is not talking to it. I'll have another go at it tonight and hopefully will have a working replacement up and running for all to use.
I think I need to open up a port but couldn't see anything obvious in the wifidog.conf file. Any geniuses who'd like to offer their opinions or expertise please do so in the comments.
Here's to my bleeding eyeballs.

Sawtell Beach Haven - gets a usage meter
Posted February 5th, 2009 by ruben
I just stuck Cafuego's excellent Internode usage meter online for Sawtell Beach Haven Apartments.
Now the lucky tenants can keep an eye on their usage, or more likely get a sinking feeling as the meagre bandwidth dribbles into their neighbours hard-drives.
Ah well such is life. Need I suggest... share folks.
Jetty Village Back Online
Posted October 21st, 2008 by Paul TempletonYah
Its back - well you can get access inside the Jetty Village Shopping Centre. Street access is on hold for the moment. The next change will be the new wifidog server and authentication server.
New WifiDog Server
Posted October 14th, 2008 by Paul TempletonWe are going to migrate over to a new server with the latest version of the WifiDog Captive Portal. This will affect all users of this network. We have chosen to start a fresh. That means no existing data will be migrated onto the new system.
WiFiDog Authentication Server
Posted August 24th, 2008 by Paul TempletonThe authentication server has moved to a new home. We have layed cable up the riser in Creek Tower. There is a small locked room on the 8th floor. This will make it easier for other members to gain access to maintian and service the equipment. Hopefully we will not have another outage that last for a week. We have a new mast and antenna to be mounted on the roof. We will be focusing on this next.
